Processing time really depends on several factors, the most important of which are the Encoding you select in Podner and your Mac's raw horsepower.
We've recorded our G5 Quad encoding MPEG-4 at about 20-50% of the original source material length, but H.264 takes about 40-70% and H.264 MultiPass can range from 90-300%. That would mean a 2-hour film could take about 24 minutes with MPEG-4 but up to 6 hours with H.264 MultiPass. The G5 2.5GHz/Dual is not that much slower than the Quad, and performance scales somewhat linearly from there with slower G5s and G4s.
In general use, if you think of MPEG-4 as a baseline, H.264 takes about 1.5x longer and H.264 MultiPass takes about 4x longer. It's a time vs. quality equation: MPEG-4 takes less time but quality is usually noticeably lower, and H.264 MultiPass takes forever but quality is top-notch. The middle of the road option, H.264 (not MultiPass), is probably best for the majority of users.
It's possible for DivX to cause the process to run a little slower than normal, but I would guess the real issue in your case is processor type and speed. Do you know which processor and speed you have there?
