Today, I noticed that ABB seemed to be hanging up during the build process. I noticed a couple of threads here explaining that a change in QuickTime (since 7.2; I have 7.4 now) was responsible for the problem.

The files I'm putting into my audiobook are already AAC-encoded, so it wouldn't seem like there'd be very much CPU work involved in putting the files together. This probably has the ABB developers shaking their heads and saying "if only it were that simple" but I thought I'd ask. I don't need the tracks re-encoded or anything - I just want them to show up under "Audiobooks" and be bookmarkable.

Is there any workaround that would allow this special case to be handled with less delay than it is now? As it stands ABB seems to be taking up nearly all my CPU (it was at 104% last time I checked) and it still hasn't finished its job.

Thanks!

"If only it were that simple."

Well, it is pretty simple, really. It's the flattening phase of joining AAC audio data that's taking so much more time than with earlier versions of QuickTime. Even though your audio data may be ready for pass through it's still going to go through that flattening phase. It wouldn't be as noticeable if QuickTime would also send progress updates while flattening, giving Audiobook Builder a chance to service the user interface. It'll finish flattening if given enough time and become responsive again but it's kinda frustrating all the same. All we can advise for now is to hit Build and let it run until it finishes.

That's cool - as long as I know it'll finish eventually. It's just disconcerting when these things appear to be locked up; you don't know what you'll see in the morning if you just leave it and go to bed. Patience is the word of the day, then... thanks!
