Post subject:  output to a FAT32 partition

First let me say that I use ABB for several months and I love it. But now I have a problem:

If I want ABB to put it's output into a folder on a FAT32 partition I get the following error message:

Quote:
Processing Audiobook
Writing Audiobook
Writing Part
Writing Chunk
Unable to write Chapter file
Source: /Users/xxx/Documents/yyy.abbuilder/Files/01 Intro
Target: /Volumes/DATEN/Daten/Audio/m4b/.ABBuilder-Temp-017F2D1DC3C-225-659DB652-43D9-4A99-83CE-FA95D676BAEF/.file0
QuickTime errors: 0, 1

I wanted to put the files on a FAT32 partition because that's the only way to swap files between Mac OS X and Windows XP...

This is something we ran into with our other QuickTime-based product, ViddyUp!, back in March. Testing showed it also occurred when exporting from QuickTime Player so we reported the issue to Apple in a bug report, including a test case to reproduce the issue. Apple responded asking why we needed to output to a FAT volume...

Since the issue is only between QuickTime and FAT volumes our workaround in ViddyUp! was to provide a user preference to create any per-build temporary files in the actual destination or in the user's Application Support folder. The second option works fine - at the last minute ViddyUp! just copies the final build from the Application Support folder to the preferred destination. We might have to bring in a preference like that for Audiobook Builder. In the meantime, you can still output to another folder on a non-FAT volume, then copy the output to your FAT-32 volume.

We'll pick up where we left off with Apple to try and get the underlying issue resolved.

One key point I didn't mention: the issue we identified with ViddyUp! only affected Intel Macs. Is your Mac Intel or PowerPC-based?

That would be fine...

That's the way I do it now...
