My Mac: iMac G5, OS 10.4.11, 1.5 gig ram, lotsa hard drive space, running fine.

iTunes: Latest version, 8.0.2 (20)

My iPod: 4th gen classic, 40gb hard drive, 15 gb free

In my car: HK Drive + Play for iPod

Background: I'm a paid Audiobook Builder and have used it for quite a while. I got two new audiobooks for Christmas and I used ABB to download from the CD's. I essentially use the default settings of ABB and usually download each disc into it's own audiobook, i.e., for the 9 disc book "The Fortune of War" I download disc one, title it "The Fortune of War 1/9", finish the build, download disc 2 and title it "The Fortune of War 2/9", etc.

The problem:

The audio cuts out after the individual "book" has played for about an hour.

For example, listening to "The Fortune of War 3/9", at 57:48 into the book the audio just stops. It happens on the Drive + Play, the iPod, and the iMac itself. The story is rolling along, the audio stops, but the display shows the time still counting up as if everything is peachy. No sound.

If I play from the disc itself directly through iTunes it plays just fine all the way through.

I've thrown away the file, re-ripped from the CD, re-built from ABB, and it quits at the exact same spot each time - "quits" meaning the audio stops but the display acts like it's still playing.

Help?

I have a similar problem but mine is random. When playing a book ripped with AAb on the Mac or the iPod, by sound just stops. The counter continues to run without audio. This happens for a few seconds to well over 5 minutes. At first I blamed in on the quality of the CDs from my library but the same thing happened on brand new audiobooks I received for Xmas. it's very frustrating.

It's still doing it, my latest audiobook quits playing sound at about hour 6.

Support? Hello?

There can be errors in the disc or the optical drive itself. Playback can sometimes recover from errors without an audible indication of an error. Reading the data itself is different.
Unfortunately, we do not have any control over how QuickTime reacts to read errors from a CD.

One thing you can try if you are repeatedly having problems with the same disc is to import the disc using iTunes while iTunes error correction is turned on in the preferences. This will read problem areas on a disc multiple times and average the results. It may take a bit longer but can yield better results than QuickTime alone. Once the disc has been imported into iTunes, you can select those newly imported tracks and then switch back to Audiobook Builder. Once in Audiobook Builder, click the 'Add iTunes' button and your iTunes tracks will be brought over to your Audiobook Builder project.

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this issue. We usually try to give the community time to respond, but this time it went unanswered for far too long.
