I see that the newly released Toast 10 now has an audiobook-creation function. I don't know the details, so I don't know how similar/disimilar it is to Audiobook Builder. But I am wondering if Toast has figured out how to make parts longer than 2.5 hours and have them work properly. This "feature" has been apart of Audiobook Builder for a long, long time, and I, for one, am ready for an audiobook program that works properly -- producing no-hassle 7-8 hour parts just like they do over at Audible.com, for example. Has anyone tried the audiobook function of Toast 10 to see if they have conquered the 2.5 limit? Or, almost as useful, does Toast 10 allow one to specify the location of part breaks so that book chapters don't get chopped in half? |

After extensively covering this issue, we had established that this issue predates Audiobook Builder by at least 2 years, with files not created by Audiobook Builder. It can be replicated with even long QuickTime audio tracks. This issue is a problem with the software of the hard drive based iPod itself, which has been brought to Apple's attention on numerous occasions and they have chose not to resolve it. Audible.com audiobooks are not as hassle free as they appear. They are affected by the same issues. Heres another example from Audible.com audiobooks dated from 2005 http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index ... 98654.html If there was an easy fix for this from our end we would have implemented it, but we currently see no way around the issue as it stands. Here is the original thread started in our forums for reference. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=276 I am by no means discouraging posts about Toast 10 functionality. I would be curious to find out if they have resolved the problem. I just wanted to be clear on Splasm's position on the issue. |

I purchased Toast 10 just for this feature, but have given up. If you take a look at the Toast forums you will find my tales of woe. But, in a nutshell, I just could not get this feature to work. And, it is not documented at all in the program. Finally, repeated requests to their support staff resulted in very conflicting responses, none of which solved the problem. It was during this process that I found out about ABB, and have been using it for about a month. So far the support has been great, and the program seems to work well. I do have another post on this forum (yesterday) detailing a problem in which all of the audiobooks that have been built by ABB and imported into my iTunes mysteriously disappear from iTunes upon import of a new audiobook from ABB. This has happened twice. The files are still in the iTunes folder, but will not appear in iTunes either in the Audiobook section, or in the Audiobook Builder playlist. As soon as I find out how to fix this, I will be one happy camper. |

For what it's worth, I've been creating 5 hour books and playing them successfully on my iPod Touch. I'm curious if the "2.5 hr limit" is for older iPods or hard disk based pods. I'm tempted to create longer books now that iPod touch will show each CD as a chapter. Any experience out there? - John |
