This morning I did about 30 minutes work reconciling, and left the window open. Electricians came to do some work and I had a brief power outage. When I returned, everything I had done today in Checkbook was gone. Apparently I have to manually save if I leave CB open? I will spare the sarcastic remarks and simply say that was a rude awakening.

Side note. I miss the simplicity of Quicken checkbook balancing. CB is not as easy or intuitive.

OS 10.8.1
CB 2.3.2

Sorry about your data loss. You can set automatic backups in preferences. I also do a manual backup each time I perform some task in CBPro. I backup to Dropbox. Of course, having a Time Machine backup is also helpful. It's just a good strategy to work up a backup plan for important and sensitive data.

CB saves when you quit the app. As with any other application, if you're doing a lot of work in it, SAVE (Command-S) occasionally.

I once had a very specialized graphics app that I used at work. It was a great app, but crashed regularly. I learned to save every few minutes and never got out of the habit.

The forthcoming update for CheckBook and CheckBook Pro, version 2.5, will save changes automatically. So, that's something to look forward to!
