Post subject:  import bank file column assignments

Hi, Checkbook. New user. Looks good!

When I do an "Import" from a downloaded bank statement - a OFX or QFX is what I've been using - then all of the "Payees" end up in the "Description" column, and there's nothing I can do about that (that I've discovered). By tinkering with the various column assignments, I can move it to "Category" but I can't move it to "To/From" which is where it seems it needs to be to have the other automatic assignments (such as "Category").

It seems as if I specified "Import Names as: To/From Items", then that should work, but it does not. The "Names" go to "Categories". I've tried several other combinations. Am I missing something obvious?

On my banking page, using "Microsoft Money" or "Quicken" produces a QFX file, if I'm not mistaken. Should I be using some other option?

Thank you.

Charles

Would it be possible for you to send us a sample of the OFX or QFX that you are trying to import so that we could try to replicate the issue here? (It could even be just a few transactions) That would really help us figure out exactly what is going on.

If so, first, you will want to open the OFX or QFX file in TextEdit and change the BANKID and the ACCTID fields to zeros so that you don't send us any of your confidential account information. After you do this, save a copy, then attach that file to an email, and send it to us at support@splasm.com.

Thanks for helping us gather this information!

Strangely enough and somewhat embarrassingly, it's straightened out in the interim.

I put "Import Names as: To/From", and why I couldn't get that to work earlier I do not know.

Now, today, that caused all sorts of double entries, but it didn't take long to straighten that out.

Thanks very much.
