I was trying to copy several rows of data out of Checkbook... noticed "Select All" was enabled, by after selecting, no "Copy" available. That seems like a fairly basic feature to be missing... am I doing something wrong?

Doesn't seem that odd to me. Since CB is not a spreadsheet application like Excel or Numbers it makes sense that this is not a feature.

The Copy option's usually only available in Mac applications for selectable Text. To move entire rows of data in the register, perhaps check out the Export options available under the File menu. With a tab-delimited Text export, you'll be able to save a file that can be opened as a spreadsheet in programs like Excel or Numbers. And since the default export option is to export the current filtered results, using a QuickFilter search in the white Search field at the top of the window will enable you to isolate particular items to be exported out.

Seriously? Right. I suppose I could also transfer the data via cuneiforms pressed into a wet clay tablet.

Not impressed.

Just curious... Are there other financial apps that do what you want? Quicken 2007 couldn't and neither could PocketMoney or Money or iBank or SplashMoney or some others I've tried. All pretty much do the same, as per my experience.

I downloaded xCode, and the iSpend example app. Compiled it, ran it, entered a couple rows of data, selected it, copied it, and pasted it into a word processor program. I also pasted it into a spreadsheet program.

In both cases, the data was transferred from the pasteboard intact, with fields correctly separated, and data types maintained.

I considered this basic functionality for a NeXTstep app 20 years ago, and I consider it basic functionality for a Mac OS X app today.

If I'm underestimating the complexity involved, I apologize.

Sorry to hear that using the Export options to move data out seems too rudimentary. It is a bit more complicated to implement the copying of Entries than what's shown in Apple's iSpend code example, though, particularly when it comes to dealing with what to do with the various data fields within the application itself. That being said, we are definitely looking into ways to make it work so perhaps you'll see it in a future release. We do appreciate your feedback!
