Purchased CheckBook Pro version 2.5.5 today and am running it on MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9. So far so good with setting up accounts, setting opening balances and entering standard debits and credits, but when setting up a transfer, between my accounts, CheckBook does not automatically set up the corresponding entry in the receiving account, or credit that account automatically. My impressions are that it should. Your advice please? |

To actually transfer funds between two CheckBook accounts, such that a corresponding second Entry shows up automatically on the opposite end, you'll want to create what's called a linked Entry. For this, click on your Entry's To or From field label and change that to To Account or From Account, respectively. After that, the To/From field will become a menu button that can be used to select the Account you want to send money to or pull money from. |

You're right: there's nowhere in the Help anymore that calls transfers "linked" Entries. Sorry about that—I'm still a little stuck on the old terminology. Check out the "Transfer funds between Accounts" section in the Help for the instructions for adding a transfer Entry that yields a link between a second Entry in another account. Also, here's a screenshot that depicts the field label being referred-to in my above instructions, if that's the confusing part:

I have converted 13 (qif) account files from Quicken to Checkbook Pro. Every Checkbook Pro account name is duplicated from the original Quicken files. After attempting for hours, I was unable to transfer any transaction from any account to any account. Si, I started over with just 2 (pretend) accounts, cash and checking, with starting balance of $500 each. I am still unable to transfer any transaction to/from cash or checking. I follow exactly the directions on page 52 of the documentation. For example, I posted a $99 withdrawal from checking and told CB to transfer to cash. The $99 is debited from checking but goes nowhere -- not to cash. Apparently, CB Pro is unable to locate the other file by name, although correctly specified in the To field. I have created these files on the desktop. Is it possible the files must be somewhere else? Mike PS: Clicking "To:" does not create a menu as you show above. However, I select the cash account from the drop down menu. PPS: I bought CB Pro from your site, not from the APP Store. |

It's absolutely essential for the To field label to be clicked and then 'To Account' to be selected in order for a transfer Entry to be created. Are you saying that your individual Accounts are all in different files? If so, that explains some things... Transfer Entries work only between Accounts within the same document file and no transfer can be created when only one Account exists. So, choose 'New Account...' from the Account menu at the top of the screen and then try again to transfer between your Accounts. Lastly, the only reason to keep different Accounts in different files would be if you wanted to have absolutely no interaction between sets of Accounts. So, you'll likely want to get all of your Accounts back in one place. For that, perhaps create all the Accounts in one of your existing documents and perform the QIF imports again. Let us know how that all goes! |

In spite of the holidays, I was able to import all my Quicken qif files and get all my accounts working and transferring between as necessary. I now have entered a month's data and without errors. Thanks, Mike |
