Is there a way to sync the account data between multiple computers? For example my wife and I each have cbp on our macbooks and will soon have it on an Imac is there a way that when one of us enters transactions we can sync it so it will show on each computer thanks |

Not currently. You can move Account files from computer to computer, but in doing so you are replacing that computer's accounts with the ones you are copying. |

There is a great service/application out there called Dropbox that would be ideal for syncing Checkbook 2 data. The only thing preventing me from doing it is that Checkbook 2 will not allow me to specify the folder in which the data file is kept, and Dropbox will not allow me to sync folders other than its own. It's amazing -two ALMOST perfect apps that won't work together because their idiosyncrasies just happen to overlap a little! I would really like to find a way to get Checkbook to look elsewhere for the accounts.plist file. Any thoughts!? Thanks, Josh |

Being able to specify where my data is stored is crucial to me. I keep documents in certain locations synced. At the very least, shouldn't a Mac app of this kind sync to MobileMe? |

I am now doing this successfully, thanks a tip given to me by someone whom I believe is a developer of this app. Here is a link to the post that has the instructions for this "hack." It has worked perfectly for me, and added a whole new level of usefulness to this app, since I can now input data from either one of my MacBooks without ever having to think about which one is the "real" copy! This seems like important functionality for at least some of us. Is it possible to make this a feature request? |

It has been considered a feature request. We will face syncing when we address the iPhone version talking with the desktop version. We will then see how this can pertain to syncing with multiple macs as well as the iPhone. |

Would jetlaw send a copy of exactly what he entered in terminal to get checkbook2 to look in his dropbox folder? Thanks. |

I would like to add another vote for Dropbox. I have seen other developers struggling to write services for their applications, and the solutions never quite worked. Dropbox is 100 percent stable, free for accounts under 2GB, and provides an OS X and iOS API for programmers. Even Apple suggests it for syncing certain data, so why not just bake it into the next version of CheckBook. If you are worried about security, require people to use a password if they use Dropbox for storing their data. |

Hello, My husband has an iMac, and I have a MacBook Pro. We each have CheckBook Pro installed on our computers. We just updated our CheckBook Pro versions to 2.3, and our method for syncing our CheckBook Pro data seems to not work anymore. Here's what we've been doing: We work on my husband's iMac to update our CheckBook Pro data. We then copy two folders from his iMac to my MacBook Pro "public/drop box" folder. Then, on my MacBook Pro, I copy the two folders to the location on my MacBook Pro that matches the location where they were found on his iMac. There are the paths of the two folders: Home/Library/Application Support/CheckBook 2 Home/Library/Preferences/Splasm The method is klunky, but it's simple and always worked -- until now. I believe that I learned this method on this forum, but I'm not sure. How can we continue to use this method, or something like it. Thanks, Sparta |

Due to Apple's restrictions on where we can store files with App Store applications, we had to alter the default account location. Your method will still work if you change your file path to this: Home/Library/Application Support/Splasm Software, Inc./CheckBook 2/ Both the preferences and the Account file are stored in this folder now, so now your method now has one less step. We have also added the ability to relocate your accounts file to a location of your choosing in the Preferences under the advanced section. You can also restore an accounts file from there as well. This allows for those using dropbox to locate their account file in their dropbox folder for cloud syncing. You can also use this for storing your accounts in a shared network location. |

I don't see any accounts in this folder. All I see is an Accounts.plist, Checkbook 2 Prefs and Backups. |

Accounts.plist is the file for your account, with all the data. Be careful when mucking around with it (like, be sure to make a backup before you change things) |

Then how can you get it to open on the other computer? |
