Post subject:  Locking the Checkbook

I have read in the Help info that a password-protected account can be locked: "You can also lock CheckBook temporarily, leaving it running while you take a short break, by selecting Lock CheckBook... from the CheckBook Menu."

That selection is grayed out, at least in my application. Is this an undeveloped, pending feature or do I have a problem with my installation?

The Lock feature is functional but depends on the user setting a global password in CheckBook's Preferences, under the Security tab. Once the password is set, the Lock menu item will be enabled. Each time the Lock menu item is selected, CheckBook will hide all Account information, save the current state of each Account to the Accounts file and present a CheckBook password prompt. This is the same password prompt displayed when the global password is enabled and CheckBook is launched - no Account information should be displayed before the password is entered, and the only option other than entering a valid password is to quit the application.

On a side note: the CheckBook password and each Account's password are not exclusive and may be used together depending on the circumstances. Enabling the CheckBook password helps prevent unauthorized access to CheckBook as a whole, while an Account password will further assist in preventing access to a specific Account.

Thanks Keith,
I missed that. I think I wondered why there was another password thing in Prefs. Maybe if it had a little more labeling, like you said, Global or Application Lock or something. I didn't realize what it was asking for. Also, a little more detail in the Help on Locking, specifically where that password entry is located, perhaps a cross-reference to the Security tab in Preferences. I was looking - I just didn't look hard and long enough or in the right place. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply.
