How can I delete payees I know longer do business with from the "To:" window? Similarly, how can I delete a category?

The To/From items list is generated on-the-fly from a set number of recently changed Entries. That means that over time items you haven’t used as recently as others will disappear from list automatically. You can change the number of recent Entries to something less and items will disappear from the list sooner, though. Here’s how:

1. Go to the Account menu at the top of your screen and click the Edit Account… menu item. You can also double-click an Account name in the list on the side of the window.

2. Click the To/From button at the top of the sheet.

3. Change the value in the The Last X Entries setting to something less than before.

The default setting is 50, so you might try 25 to see if that helps.

Or, to switch to a manually-managed list, go through the first two steps above but then click the circle beside where it says “The following To/From items”. After that, click the button marked with a swooping arrow and select your current Account’s name to populate the list with your recently-used items, then you’ll be able to remove anything at will using the button marked with the slashed-circle symbol.


To get to where you can remove specific Categories, go to the Window menu at the top of your screen and click the Categories menu item. (Or, for pre-3.x Pro versions, go to the Account menu at the top of your screen and click the Edit All Accounts… menu item. Or, for pre-3.x Basic versions, go to the CheckBook menu at the top of your screen, click the Preferences or Settings menu item, and click "Categories".)
