my deposits don't add they subtract the amount

Is it possible that your balance is in the negative? If so, Deposits added in will appear to subtract from the total in that the negative balance will decrease as it gets closer to zero. To change the Starting Balance, choose 'Edit Account...' from the Account menu at the top of the screen.
